A RESOLUTION COMMENDING CLARE SEKUL HORNSBY AS A WOMAN OF '99 "POWER OF ONE" HONOREE.
WHEREAS, Governor and Mrs. Fordice are hosting the third annual conference to recognize women in the state who are outstanding volunteers in their community, which is entitled MISSISSIPPI WOMAN '99: THE "POWER OF ONE"; and
WHEREAS, Clare Sekul Hornsby is one of this year's honorees; and
WHEREAS, Clare Sekul Hornsby has practiced law in Biloxi since 1945; and
WHEREAS, she learned early that understanding the law gave her the power to help people, which she does with the understanding imparted to her in childhood by her parents that the law is the highest and best calling next to the ministry; and
WHEREAS, she and her brother John had the rare honor of being admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court; and
WHEREAS, Clare Hornsby has been a pioneer who has experienced many "firsts" in her career, including her election as President of the Harrison County Bar Association in the early 1970's; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Sekul is a valued role model in the law profession who mentors, nurtures and encourages younger lawyers; and
WHEREAS, she is also extensively involved in community service, having been brought up to do for others and treat everyone fairly; and
WHEREAS, past honors include having been named by the Lion's Club as Mother of the Year in 1960; and
WHEREAS, despite her work and community involvement her family has been of utmost importance to her, including her late husband, Warren, and her four children and her grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this body to recognize the honors and achievements of the citizens of this state:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend Clare Sekul Hornsby for the honor bestowed upon her as a Woman of '99 "Power of One" honoree.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be presented to Clare Sekul Hornsby and Mrs. Pat Fordice at the conference awards banquet on March 1, 1999, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
